Customer challenge
In recent years, the municipality of Utrecht has had to deal with heavy rainfall. A lot of rainwater has to be drained off in a short period of time. Especially the basement houses, houses built between 1880 and 1890, in the district Lombok have suffered a lot from this heavy rainfall because of the rainwater that flows into the house. Another challenge in this project was the measurements of the ground. The project has to be carried out in contaminated soil (class 3T). The municipality and residents are working together to make this neighbourhood waterproof.

What was our solution
We have drilled drainage under 23 houses using trenchless technology. By means of Auger Drilling, perforated drainage pipes were drilled under the houses. These are connected to a pit through which the rainwater can be drained.

What were the advantages of this
This method minimises nuisance in a short period of time. The process took about 2 days per house. The only minimal space nuisance was a entry pit (2.5 x 2.5) for the street and an exit pit (1 by 1.5 and 1.20 deep) in the garden of the private house. The result is a well-functioning drainage system so that no more rainwater can be found in the houses.
