Junction of the A13 motorway
In Rotterdam we completed an Open Front boring of 52 meters for a gas line Ø406 (STEEL). We used a water lock due to the groundwater level being above the bore. Also, before, during, and after the boring we conducted mobile monitoring along the A13 to determine the road alignment.
During the boring we crossed a decommissioned sewer; however, it was unclear whether this was well documented and it could not be traced, as it lies under the highway. In consultation with our client and to prevent the decommissioned sewer from being struck during the boring, we conducted a pilot bore. This established that this sewer was not in our bore path; the newly to be installed bore would therefore not encounter the decommissioned sewer under the highway. On the receiving side there is a water main. To pass this with sufficient clearance, we drilled with a gradient of 3 cm per meter.
