Casings in Germany

In about a month we will start a project in which we will perform 18 boreholes near Oberhartmannsreuth, in eastern Germany, close to the border with the Czech Republic. Our client faces the challenge of executing several horizontally steered boreholes (HDD) in an area with a soil composition of sand, gravel and rock. To make this possible, we will first install casing pipes, also known as casings.

The complexity of the project lies in the entry angle and the soil structure. The top layer consists of sand and clay with stones and gravel, followed by weathered rock. We will drill our casing to about two meters deep into the rock layer, with entry angles varying from eight to seventeen degrees. At the client's request we will place two casings simultaneously. To realize this, we have purchased a second drilling machine of the type PBA320 and had specially designed t-frames manufactured. These frames, essential for the precise positioning of the machines, are fifteen meters long and weigh about fourteen tons.

Mobilization for the project will begin on May 21.

Successful project: Biesbosch GFT

We have completed another wonderful project! In Wouw we carried out a closed-front boring of 43 meters with a diameter of Ø1400 (steel) successfully. The water pipeline to be laid had to pass under an existing pipeline route. An additional challenge at this crossing was a very critical concrete wastewater pipe from Brabantse Delta that lay in the route. Our drilling crew has achieved this boring according to our drilling plan in the correct and safe manner!

Kouwenberg Infra Staff Outing

A few times per year we organize a staff outing for our employees. This can be the annual dart tournament in our workshop, or another activity. This year we choose the 4x4 Ecotrail and a BUS Whisky tour.

On to the staff outing!

VCA** Certification

As Kouwenberg Infra grows, undertakes more main-contract work, and tackles increasingly riskier projects, we saw it as natural to shift to the VCA** certification. Although we previously held VCA* certification, the principles of VCA** have long been woven into our ways of working. A few examples of this are: aligning HSE aspects with subcontractors, raising safety awareness through instructions and various meetings, and conducting performance reviews in which HSE is central.

Electric powerpack

At this moment we are building our second electric powerpack. This powerpack is all-round: with it we can operate all OFT machines, from the smallest (PBA38) to the largest (PBA320) diameter. The big difference with the electric powerpack we are currently using is that this powerpack integrates several separate pumps, so we can supply the different machines with the right amount of oil. This marks a step toward lower CO2 emissions!
